The UN Global Goal: Zero Hunger
"It is time to rethink how we grow, share and consume our food." – United Nations
End Hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. The Goal of Zero Hunger has 8 targets:
  • Universal access to safe and nutritious food
  • End all forms of malnutrition
  • Double the productivity and incomes of small-scale farmers
  • Sustainable food production and resilient agricultural practices
  • Maintain the genetic food diversity in food production
  • Invest in rural infrastructure, agricultural research, technology and gene banks
  • Prevent agricultural trade restrictions, market distortions and export subsidies
  • Ensure stable food commodity markets and timely access to information

Teaching Ideas:
  • Learn about sustainable food production within 25 kms from school (e.g. agriculture, fisheries)
  • Learn about food waste and/or local food available at local grocery stores, markets and restaurants
  • Learn about the importance of bees to fight hunger 
  • Learn Lucky Iron Fish – an innovative solutions to micronutrient deficiencies
  • Explore what people eat in a day around the world
  • Learn about Funny Fruit—many fruits and vegetables are thrown out because their size, shape, or color are not “right”. Buying these perfectly good funny fruit, utilizes food that might otherwise go to waste.
